Proverbs 31:25 Strength and dignity are her clothing and her position is strong and secure; she rejoices over the future [the latter day or time to come, knowing that she and her family are in readiness for it]!

The Proverbs 31 Woman is strong and dignified with a position that is strong and secure. What a woman! I see quiet strength when I read this verse. In quietness and confidence shall be your strength. (See Isaiah 30:15.) I see a woman who doesn’t have to talk real loud in order to get her point across. I see Maya Angelou’s, “Phenomenal Woman.” I see you and I see me – with our lives entrusted to the Master. Yes, we are Proverbs 31, Phenomenal Women! Because we are strong and dignified with strong and secure positions, we don’t have to worry about the future. Our futures are bright. God holds our futures. As such, we can literally laugh at the days to come. (See the NIV-UK version). We don’t have to worry about a thing!

Walk in your calling. Wear your clothing of strength and dignity and be ever cognizant that your position is strong and secure. When Satan comes against you, laugh in his face. He is already defeated!

Proverbs 31:26 She opens her mouth in skillful and godly Wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness [giving counsel and instruction].

When I studied this scripture, the thing that jumped out at me was the word “opens.” It says, “She opens her mouth in skillful and godly Wisdom…” [Emphasis mine.]. This shows forth the fact that at one point her mouth is indeed closed and implies that she thinks before she speaks. She knows the power of words and the importance of choosing them carefully. The New Living Translation states, “When she speaks, her words are wise, and kindness is the rule when she gives instructions.” [Emphasis mine]. She is not speaking all the time. She does not run off at the mouth. She skillfully opens her mouth. She knows what to say and when to say it. She is a smart woman.
As Proverbs 31 Women, let’s remember to think before we speak. Think about the impact your words will have once they are uttered. It’s easier to not say something than it is to say it and have to take it back later. Remember, the wise woman builds her house, but the foolish tears it down with her own hands. (See Prov. 14:1.)

We’ll discuss actual communication skills in a future lesson.

Proverbs 31:27 She looks well to how things go in her household, and the bread of idleness (gossip, discontent, and self-pity) she will not eat.

The Proverbs 31 Woman is far too productive to even think about being idle. It’s impossible to be a Proverbs 31 Woman and have time to gossip, be discontent, and wallow in self-pity. A Proverbs 31 Woman is the type of woman who makes things happen, not one who looks and says, “What happened?” As such, there’s no room for idleness in her life. In fact, having time to gossip, be discontented, and wallow in self-pity is a sign of being lazy.

Watching over your own life (household) should take up so much of your time, that you don’t have time to (1) talk about so-and-so, (2) be envious of so-and-so (discontent), or (3) pity yourself because it seems like so-and-so gets all the breaks in life and you get none. No, you are a Proverbs 31 Woman; your life is too full to keep up with the details of someone else’s life. You are genuinely happy for other people’s successes and if you haven’t come into “yours” yet, you know it’s just a matter of time. So, use your “time” wisely.

Be blessed. I’ll se ya in the next article!
