Faith for Finances – Practical Money Advice, Pt. 3
This week, as promised, I am sharing from the Blog Talk Radio Broadcast, “Walking Through The Scriptures With Patricia.” This is Part 3 of Practical Money Advice in the Faith for Finances Series. This series is being done because of the terrible economic times our country, and the world-at-large, have been facing. Fortunately, as Christians, we are “in” the world, but not “of” the world. So, we are not limited by the things that limit the world. God is our source of supply and he meets our every need. Unfortunately, however, we sometimes forget this or our circumstances scream so loudly, that we find it hard to believe. We must build up our faith for finances so that we can overcome this terrible economic “wile” of the devil. Click below to listen to some Practical Money Advice as you build your Faith for Finances! This link will take you to the Blog Talk Radio page.

Tips for Drawing Closer to God in the New Year
A very popular Praise & Worship song has the following lyrics:
Draw me close to You
Never let me go
I lay it all down again
To hear You say that I’m Your friendYou are my desire
No one else will do
‘Cause nothing else could take Your place
To feel the warmth of Your embrace
Help me find the way
Bring me back to YouYou’re all I want
You’re all I’ve ever needed
You’re all I want
Help me know You are near
I was chatting on Facebook over the holidays with a friend from high school who shared with me a distant feeling they had with the Lord. I reminded them that the Christian walk is a one-day-at-a-time walk and we grow day-by-day. I also reminded them that we were approaching a new year and a new decade and what better time than the present to draw closer to God. Maybe you’re not satisfied with your walk, either. In truth, none of us really are. Until we see God face to face, our walk won’t be 100%. However, we should continue to improve our walk day-by-day. So, following are a few things you can implement that will improve your walk:
1. Read your Bible daily. Those who grew up in Sunday School will remember this one. Every Sunday the class was asked to raise their hands if they had read their Bibles everyday in the week before. We were always so excited when we could raise our hands. Since it is the beginning of the year, you might look for a schedule of reading your Bible through in a year. This is a good way to read your Bible through and have daily Bible readings. It will also cause you to draw closer to God because you are learning more about him through his Word.
2. Pray daily. You might start the day with something like, “Lord, thank you for waking me up this morning. Please show me what to do with this day.” Or you might spend the time you commute to or from work in prayer. This is especially great if you pray in the Spirit. You’ll be infusing yourself with power to have a great day at work or a great evening at home. Whether in your native tongue or an unknown tongue, praying will draw you closer to God because you’ll be communicating with him.
3. Spend time in Praise and Worship. Listen to some praise and worship music or sing some of the songs you’ve learned in church. This isn’t limited to the popular songs of today. You could also sing the “old” hymn book songs. The Bible says God inhabits the praises of his people. That is, he comes to live in our praise. Doing so will draw you closer to him.
So, do I have to do all of this, you might ask? Not necessarily. You might do all of it or you might mix and match. Just be led by the Holy Spirit. He knows what you need. Happy New Year! Here’s to getting it off to a great start!
