4 Tips For Enhancing Your Outer Beauty

Outer beauty is an extension of your inner beauty.  It is composed of your inner peace and confidence, coupled with an enhancement of your outer appearance.  Following are a few tips to help you enhance your outer appearance.

1. Dress For Your Figure Type

We have to learn how to wear clothes that compliment our figure types.  We make ourselves look bad by wearing outfits that are not suitable for us.

There are four basic figure types: 1) “apple-shaped” – large top/small bottom, 2) “pear-shaped” – small top/large bottom, 3) “ruler-shaped” – even throughout without a waistline, and 4) “hourglass-shaped” – proportionate throughout.  Personally, I am pear-shaped.

To compliment our figure types, we must create visual balance.  We do this by purposely drawing attention to our smaller areas.  Our eyes are drawn to bright colors and detail, so we should put these things on our smaller areas to make them appear larger.  For example, if you are apple-shaped (heavier on top), you should wear outfits that add volume on the bottom, like wide-legged pants and flared or pleated skirts.  If you wore busy prints or bulky fabrics on top, you would simply make your upper body look bigger.  Another tip for you is to add detail to your waist with attention getting belts and sashes.

Likewise, if you are pear-shaped (heavier on the bottom), you should wear brighter colors and patterns on your upper body.  You should also wear jackets with a lot of detail and feel free to wear scarves.  Your goal is to draw the eye upward so that your hips are seen in the peripheral vision.

If you are ruler-shaped (even throughout, without a waistline), wear outfits that make you look as though you have a waistline.  Wear attention-getting belts and sashes around your waist.  Fitted jackets will also help create the appearance of a waistline.  Again, the eyes will be drawn to your waist with the other parts of your body kept in peripheral vision.

Now, if you have the perfect, hourglass figure, consider yourself blessed.  You can wear anything.  You have no real concerns unless you are heavier than you would like to be. If this is the case, wear softer fabrics.  Soft fabrics are very complimentary to the hourglass figure.  They do not make you look bigger, but simply drape your figure.  Bulky fabrics obviously, add bulk and exaggerate your figure.

All figure types should wear more fitted outfits.  Note, I am not talking about skin-tight, red-light district outfits, but merely fitted outfits.  Hire a seamstress to cut your clothing to your specific measurements.  This is a really good tip if you are heavier than you would like to be.  Often heavier ladies opt for loose-fitting outfits to try to hide their figures.  This technique actually backfires because the loose-fitting clothes cause the eye to see volume and make the lady look at least 10 – 20 lbs. heavier than she actually is.  If this is you, come out of hiding and make the most of what you have got.  It will work if you work it.

2. Conduct A Closet-Purging

Now, that we know how to dress for our figure types, we will want to purge our closets.  We will, of course, want to get rid of everything that does not compliment our figures.  However, more importantly, we will want to get rid of everything that does not make us feel special or attractive when we wear it.  All of the clothing and accessories you have that make you feel ugly or just “so-so” make you feel “less than” when you wear them.  This lack of confidence comes across to the people with whom you come in contact.  So, have a garage sale or give those things that are not benefitting you to charity.  Then be Proverbs 31-smart and invest the proceeds from the sale, or if you gave the clothes to charity, deduct the contribution from your taxes.

3. Learn How to Apply Make-up

Make-up is designed to enhance your facial features and make you more appealing.  The easiest way to learn how to apply make-up is to have a makeover, take pictures of the session, and ask lots of questions.  Most cosmetic lines will give you a makeover with the purchase of their products.  After a few of these sessions, not only will you have the cosmetics you need, but you will also have learned valuable tips and have many pictures from which to practice.  I suggest that if you are totally new to make-up that you take pictures of every stage:  foundation, eye colors, blush, and lipstick.  Bring a friend with you to take the pictures.  Ask the make-up artist to tell you what they are doing as they do it and to also write down the products they are using.  Some cosmetic lines will even “paint” the make-up onto a canvas (with an outline of a face on it), so that you will know exactly where to apply the make-up.

Once you are at home, take your pictures, products and notes, get before a well-lighted mirror, and practice, practice, practice.  You may look like Mardi Gras when you first get started, but hang in there.  Practice makes perfect.  Ask God to help you and he will.  I also suggest that while at the cosmetic counters, ask them for an everyday look and a dressy look.  This way you will be ready, no matter what the occasion.

In addition to visiting cosmetic counters, you should also read beauty magazines and beauty books.  These will give you more tips and help enhance what you learn at the counters.

4. Accentuate Your Good Features

In addition to dressing for your figure type, learn how to accentuate your good features. For example, if you have great legs, show them off.  Now, wearing a miniskirt to church is not a good idea; however, knee-length skirts or skirts just below the knee are both modest and attractive for the leggy woman.  Similarly, if you have a small waistline, wear the waist-cinching outfits like the short, fitted jackets that have peplums.

If you have a great smile, smile…a lot.  Even if you do not have a great smile, consider smiling because doing so will put a twinkle in your eye and make you more inviting.

Another example is to play up your eyes, if you have pretty eyes.  Make them up with eye shadows and mascara, etc., so that they will be showcased over, for example, a not-so-great smile.

I think you get the picture…

Confession Precedes Possession

When you signed up for this Ezine, you received a free download of the “Proverbs 31 Woman Prayer Confession.”  In this article, I want to talk about what confessions are and why we should make them.

Usually, when we hear the word “confession,” we think about admitting something that we have done wrong.  We envision going into a booth and telling a priest our sins.  We might also envision being interrogated by the police and confessing to a crime.  These are indeed confessions; however, there is an additional meaning to the word, confession.  The word confession comes from the Greek word, homologeo, which means “to say the same thing as; to agree with; to declare openly; and to speak out freely.”  This is the meaning that we follow here.

It is important that we make prayer confessions.  The Bible says, the power of life and death is in the tongue.  (Proverbs 18:21).  Ultimately, what we say (confess) will control our lifestyle.  Because we are endeavoring to live the Proverbs 31 life, we must speak it into existence in our lives.

No matter how much we may believe in the possibility of living the Proverbs 31 life, belief is not enough.  If the words that come out of our mouths on a day-to-day basis do not line up with what we believe, we will not experience or take possession of this lifestyle.  We have what we say.

God has already given us the victory through Christ Jesus; however, to possess that victory, we must consistently speak God’s Word into existence in our lives.

So, here’s the plan of action for your “Proverbs 31 Woman Prayer Confession.”  (Also, following is a 15 minute audio teaching I did entitled, “Confession Precedes Possession.”)

1.     Take the Prayer Confession and read it aloud, from start to finish.  Do so once a day for 21 days.  It takes 21 days to form new and good habits.  In that 21 days, you will be getting God’s thoughts of you as a Proverbs 31 Woman, down into your spirit.  Please do so aloud.  Faith comes by hearing.

2.     After 21 days, make the confession as often as the Holy Spirit leads you.  Perhaps, he may lead you to do it every other day, a couple times a week, or once a week.  Once you have it in your spirit (21 days), you will begin to speak in line with it in your everyday conversations.  However, please do not cease to pull out the actual confession and make it.  Make the actual confession at least once a week, so that you may maintain your victory over the Enemy’s battle for your mind.

Give Yourself a Break…

Give yourself a break…

Did you notice the picture I have here?  This is a picture of my utility drawer.  I have been on a mission to declutter my life.  Unfortunately, I still have a lot of work to do in this area.  For example, the trunk of my car is piled with teaching tapes and CDs that need organizing.  When I travel, I have to move stuff around or put my suitcases on the backseat!  However, cleaning my trunk is on my list of things to do and I will get it done.  In the meantime, when I’m tempted to beat myself up for not having finished my decluttering project, I take a look at my utility drawer.  At one time, I was unable to open this drawer without prying it open.  It was not only stocked full of junk, but I also could never find what I was looking for when I needed it.  It, too, was on my ‘decluttering to do list’ and, thank God, I finally got it done.  So, in those moments when I want to get mad at myself for not having finished my list, I literally walk over and open this drawer and look at what I have gotten accomplished.  I suggest you do the same.  Give yourself a break.  Maybe you haven’t yet accomplished every goal you’ve set in life, but I’m certain there are some things that you have accomplished.  So, while you are believing God to get your ‘to do list’ tackled, deliberately go and look at what you have accomplished.  Let that thing, no matter how small, encourage you to know that you can accomplish ALL of your dreams.  One day at a time.

This is the running theme and the underlying motivator for successfully living the Proverbs 31 lifestyle:  One day at a time.  To successfully live the Proverbs 31 lifestyle, a woman MUST give herself a break.  She MUST NOT beat herself up for areas where she feels she falls short.  She must continually look at her accomplishments, thank God for them, and use them to fuel her faith in accomplishing her other goals.  It is a livable life!  Life is lived in stages and it’s a marathon, not a sprint.  Think of it like a savings account, where your money draws interest daily.  Interest rates are low now, but even in the present economy, the amount of your initial investment does not remain the same.  It grows daily!  And, of course, the more you put into it, the bigger the amount of your balance.  It’s the cumulative effect.  One day at a time…we invest in ourselves.  One day at a time…we work on our goals.  One day at a time…we measure ourselves against the Proverbs 31 Woman.  We tweak and adjust where necessary, but NEVER do we beat ourselves up, because cumulatively speaking, we’re GROWING.  We’re getting better and better, one day at a time.  So, give yourself a break and keep growing.
